Welcome……

You have reached the website of the Woodnewton History Group which was formed in 2012 with the principal aim of finding out about our predecessors who laid the foundations of the village; discovering and recording information about the village’s rich history.

Would you like to know more about Woodnewton, how the village began and how it developed over the years to become what it is today?

What of the people who lived here – the traders, the farmers, the drinkers in the pubs and the children in the village school? Did you know that St Mary’s Hill was once called New Road? Who were the Wades, Lindseys and Pridmores and why were their names given to streets in the village?

Our group is made up of like-minded people who want to study and record various aspects of the village and village life of times gone by. The members of the group meet regularly to exchange information on items of common interest. Since we started we have gradually accumulated a substantial archive of memories and photographs and this website will be our platform for storing all our research.

If you have any ancestors from this village and would like to know more (not all our research is on this site), please do contact us.  You may be able to help us as much as we would be able to help you.
