This report was written from the viewpoint of a concerned resident

The 5G mast encounter started in late August 2021.  A comment was made to me  “Did you know they are putting up a 15-metre mast at the entrance to your Close.”  Well, it’s not my Close but I do live there, and I was aware that the 5G telecoms was being rolled out; little did I know that I was to become an expert on the subject over the next few months.  My initial feelings were that this must be a wind-up , but I decided I better check what a 5G mast was.

I checked out the East Northants planning and the notice on the Lampost in the Close and there it was and you have only got 14 days to appeal……….”this is serious, so first things first, object then build up awareness in the village, then action”.

When I initially contacted my local MP, he didn’t want to get involved, (Government policy etc), but he soon started to change his tune when he realised the extent of the grievance over the invasion of the ‘5G alien’.

The company involved, ‘Three’ or Hutchisons in my humble opinion, just wanted to drop one of these ugly monstrosities in Woodnewton without even the notion of any due care or consideration to the residents, but simply cost effectiveness from a business point of view.

A lovely Hornbeam tree has now been planted on the site in memory of our late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
