Every village has its fair share of interesting people and Woodnewton is no exception. Whether they are those who were famous, played important parts in village life, or just loved to tell a tale, they have all lived or worked in Woodnewton.
In the 19th century, there was Miles Joseph Berkeley (1803-1889), a famous Botanist – would he have been treated like a celebrity as he would have been today, or did he just live and work normally alongside other villagers? When Coco the Clown moved into the village in 1970, he simply lived amongst his neighbours in the street as an ordinary resident. There is further interesting information about these two people if you click on the Memories button.
What was life like in the village in the early part of the twentieth century? Read about it in the Memories section as the group were able to interview and record some of the villagers’ reminiscences before they died. We also have stories from families who have left the village, sometimes going back over generations.
