Private George SMITH
Bedfordshire Regiment
George was born to parents Thomas Henry Smith and Elizabeth, nee Bryan on 7th September 1893, in Woodnewton. His father was a native of the village and would continue to live there until his death.
George attended the village Primary School, starting at just over the age of 3 years. His school records show that by 1906 he had started work as a farm labourer.
Unfortunately, there are no military papers available.
George married Bertha Clark in 1916 in the Wellingborough district and they had a son, William Thomas. By the time the 1939 Register was taken, George and his son were living at Woodford Wold Farm where George was employed as a cowman and general farm worker. He is listed as being a widower, but no records can be found of Bertha’s death.
George died in 1966 registered in the Wellingborough district.
