The Village Platinum Jubilee Celebrations were held over the weekend of 2nd to 5th June 2022, and began with a picnic on the Friday afternoon. The weather was sunny with a breeze and people arrived with their tables and chairs and baskets of food ready to join in and enjoy the
competitions and events organised by the Parish Council.
There was a sponge cake competition in the Village Hall and there was a splendid array of beautifully decorated Jubilee themed sponge cakes made by the young and not so young. A winner for each class was announced . The children had made some fantastic creations for the Jubilee Crown and Jubilee themed artwork which were all on display.
During the afternoon the Woodnewton Olympics were held, amongst them a ‘Welly Wanging’ Competition and a ‘Slow’ bike race. Younger children competed in an obstacle race and a set of stocks had been erected where some unfortunate ‘volunteers’ were pelted with very wet sponges. Later, the partygoers were musically entertained by ‘JP and the Hat’ (John Phythian and Tony Brough) playing popular songs for people to sing along to.

Meanwhile the picnics were eaten and happily shared amongst friends old and new with toasts being made to Queen Elizabeth II and it was generally agreed that the Woodnewton Jubilee Picnic had been a terrific event.
As the afternoon drew to a close the Village bonfire/beacon was lit and the organisers were thanked for all their hard work. Finally, after a very pleasant afternoon, the National Anthem was played.

SATURDAY 3RD JUNE
On Saturday evening a Bingo Session was held in the Village Hall. Monetary prizes were won and one lucky winner received a special prize of a Jubilee Mug.
