As Woodnewton Primary School was a Church of England School, Christmas was  always a time of celebration for the children at school before they broke up for the holidays. The pictures below provides us with ideas of how Christmas was celebrated.

NOVEL THEME FOR PLAY

“CHRISTMAS in Europe” was the theme of the play put on for parents and friends by the 22 children of Woodnewton village school on Wednesday, 24th December.

The play, produced by head teacher Miss P E Darvill, with Mrs J Davis, explained some of the Christmas customs in European countries.

Mrs T Desmond, rural schools adviser for the Oundle area, taught the children the carols and the chief readers were Rachel Lusby, James Baker and James Wilson.

There was a special musical item taught by Mr B Hibbs, the area music teacher, in which children from the Bulwick and Apethorpe schools joined the Woodnewton pupils to form a choir.

The picture to the left shows a tableau from the play.
