Michael Raymond Matthews was born in Yorkshire in 1955. He attended the Theological College of the Resurrection , popularly known as Mirfield, and was ordained as a deacon in 2004 and a priest the following year.  North Featherstone & Purston cum South Featherstone parishes in the Wakefield Diocese is where he completed his training as a curate.  Michael was appointed priest-in-charge of the benefice of Haslingfield with Harlton and Great and Little Eversden on 1 May 2007.  During Michael’s ministry  in the Ely Diocese,  more churches would join the benefice and become known as the Lordsbridge Team Ministry, in which Michael would become one of the Team Vicars within a group of eleven parishes in 2011.  Michael was designated as ‘lead minister’ for the parishes of Haslingfield, Harlton, Great and Little Eversden, to which Barton was later added.

It was in July 2013 that Michael and his wife Stephanie, moved eastwards  and joined a benefice in the Peterborough Diocese.  Michael was licensed as priest in  charge of this parish together with Nassington, Yarwell and Apethorpe.  During his time in our benefice, Michael was involved in the parishes of Thornaugh and Wansford joining this Benefice and the newly named ‘Watersmete’ benefice being formed.

It was in 2015 that Father Michael resigned as priest in charge due to family health issues.
