The impact of the Lockdown Restrictions on the Woodnewton residents was immense, but within days of the announcement a group of younger residents had formed a committee and gone into action to protect the vulnerable and older members of the community.
Each household received a letter outlining the names and telephone numbers of each member of the committee with offers of, for instance, fetching shopping, medicines, taking to doctor/hospital appointments, dog walking etc. They also had a quantity of books, jigsaws and games to borrow.
Many residents were grateful recipients of these acts of kindness for a long period of uncertainty until the lockdown restrictions were lifted and the Covid vaccination programme was rolled out. The generosity of spirit of these people has been remembered with a plaque which has been placed at the entrance to The Paddock from Main Street (adjacent to 30/32).
