Sapper Albert (Bert) SPADEMAN

Although, Albert Spademan who was born on 10th October 1889 in Kings Cliffe, by 1901 the family had moved to Mill House, Woodnewton (which we know as Conegar Farm). His father, Sydney was working for himself as a miller, baker and fruit salesman. Albert went to school at Woodnewton on 14th March 1893 with his siblings. We know from the 1911 census he was ‘working in gardens’ and unmarried
Over the period August/September 1913, immigration records show that he arrived in Vermont. Albert originally enlisted in 11th Regiment Irish Fusiliers of Canada (121st Overseas Battalion). He then enlisted and passed fit on 6th December 1915 at Vancouver, aged 26 years 2 months. His attestation papers show that his personal details were:-
Height – 5 feet 4½ inches,
Girth – 36 inches
Complexion – dark
Eyes – brown
Hair – dark brown
Religion – Church of England.
At this time we do not have any information as to when Albert was back living in England. However, we can find him on the Electoral Roll for Woodnewton in 1922 through to 1926. He then marries Charlotte Elizabeth Collin in 1926. The Southwick Electoral Roll provides us with the evidence that he moved to Southwick and then Glapthorn.
Their deaths are recorded in Peterborough in 1973 (Albert) and 1975 (Charlotte).
