Although, this person appears on the Roll of Honour, there is no paperwork whatsoever to support that he was in the Military. However, we have to assume that he was a driver with the Royal Horse Artillery as stated on the Roll of Honour.
Frederick Lock was born in 1893 and baptised on 9th July 1893 at St Mary’s Church, and we know from census records that he lived in Woodnewton with his maternal grandparents, William and Mary Siddons. However, when his mother, Eliza, died at a very young age in 1904, he moved back to live with his father William and his siblings, together with his paternal grandmother, who had been brought in to look after the family. In the 1911 census he is recorded as a farm labourer.
Frederick married Grace Ellen Hames in 1917, and by the 1921 census they were living with his father and mother-in-law, William & Lizzie Hames at 52 Asfordby Street, in Leicester. The census also shows that he was working for Midland Railway as a railway labourer. He and Grace would have three children of which only two survived.
We cannot find any further records about Fred and his family thereafter, except that Fred died in 1957 and Grace in 1974
